The girls and I have spent the week hunting. Its been pretty cold for the most part. I got a small doe earlier in the week but haven't seen another deer since. I also got three squirrels but our neighbors cat, mama-sita, stole one I left unattended for about a minute and proceeded to eat her supper!
Last night we had dinner at Buddy's house next door and played Boggle with the kids.
Today it is sleeting with freezing rain and you can't walk in the woods without the forest hearing you. I've been hunting by the house where I'm out of the sleet and near the coffee pot.

Blizzard brings 20" snow to Fairfax
The "Blizzard of 09" dropped 20 inches on us yesterday. I haven't been to our house in Madison but my neighbor Buddy reports 30 to 36 inches up on the mountain. Waiting to hear if the road to our house has been plowed yet. More pictures soon.

First Deer of the Season
100 lbs dressed. Later that evening I shot at a doe about 150 yards
away but missed. I checked the rifle on Sunday and it was sighted in
just fine. So yeah I MISSED! ;)

My Daughter Practicing Violin
My daughter decided she wants to play violin. Here she is practicing her 20 minutes a day. The school offered to teach her for free and we accepted. She already has a good foundation from piano lessons and easily reads music. Now she must learn the notes on the violin.

Two box turtles hoping I would leave
I saw these two colorful box turtles today near the lake. They obviously did not want to be disturbed.

Time To Go Bowling
Last Saturday I took the girls out bowling so I could practice a little...it's only been 8-10 years! They did very well even considering the bumpers. Here are some pictures showing their stylish shoes and their favorite leave of the day, the 7-10 split. I started out slow with a 155 but ended the second game with a 259. I just recovered from the aches and pains. Time to go bowling again!

Ski Trip to Wintergreen
Thursday, January 1, 2009
Happy New year
Saturday my cousin will come back out to hunt squirrels. My wife said she would try it but I expect most of them we'll just give to my cousin.
More about our ski trip to Wintergreen Ski Resort later.
Also a note to our friends in other countries that might have found these hunting pictures offensive... hunting in our country is part of our heritage. We eat what we hunt and take no more. It's far more humane to hunt compared to what is done to cattle at the slaughter house. I was raised a hunter as was my father and his father before him. Some people are against hunting and that's their decision. I hope they enjoy being vegitarians as much as I enjoy being an omnivore. This is part of our life here in Virginia and that's what this blog site is about.
