Homework Time

Today our task was to assist Cassi with her homework due Monday.  Her project was to write a journal as if she was in Jamestown in the early 1600s.  Here she is making perfectly good copier paper look old and imperfect.

Happy New Year 2010

Today was not so cold up on the mountain.  My wife arrived very early this morning and we were all glad she made it safely.  There were reports of freezing rain. As you can see it was very foggy this new years day.  Hunting has been weird.  Between the full blue moon, deer that are spooked and in hiding, and the crunchy leftover snow, the deer just are not moving.  Maybe I need a dog?

Buddy and Amy are coming over later to cook dinner for us.  Chicken and spinach salad.  Hope I can get to sleep at a reasonable hour.  Tomorrow is the last day for white tail hunting and I'd like to be awake for it.  The girls have been up with me all week.  They want to stay up late and I want to get up before sunrise.  The combo makes for a very tired daddy.  Got a nap in and the wife and girls just went to a movie.  Another cup of coffee and I'm back in the woods until buddy and amy show up.

Hunting This Week

The girls and I have spent the week hunting.  Its been pretty cold for the most part.  I got a small doe earlier in the week but haven't seen another deer since.  I also got three squirrels but our neighbors cat, mama-sita, stole one I left unattended for about a minute and proceeded to eat her supper!

Last night we had dinner at Buddy's house next door and played Boggle with the kids.

Today it is sleeting with freezing rain and you can't walk in the woods without the forest hearing you.  I've been hunting by the house where I'm out of the sleet and near the coffee pot.

Blizzard brings 20" snow to Fairfax

The "Blizzard of 09" dropped 20 inches on us yesterday. I haven't been to our house in Madison but my neighbor Buddy reports 30 to 36 inches up on the mountain. Waiting to hear if the road to our house has been plowed yet.  More pictures soon.

First Deer of the Season

Saturday morning around 7am I tagged this 4 point buck. He weighed in at
100 lbs dressed. Later that evening I shot at a doe about 150 yards
away but missed. I checked the rifle on Sunday and it was sighted in
just fine. So yeah I MISSED! ;)
